

I have been a member of Purchasing Power Plus
for 5 years and in that time we have enjoyed great savings and
I have attended some wonderful conferences. In the beginning
we kept track of what our savings were from each invoice. It
was over $4,000.00 the first year and even more the next. I
no longer track these savings because it is well worth the membership
fee.
The networking with other hospital gift shop
managers and buyers is another plus. When we went to a point
of purchase system a couple years ago I had a great list of
shops that I could call to get advise as well as help from the
staff at P.P.P.

Purchasing Power Plus has the potential to
perform as the most profitable return on the dollar you’ll
ever spend. This is our 5th year as a member, and here’s
why I consider the program worth every penny:
Started by several buyers with a strong history of success in
the hospital gift shop industry, it focuses exclusively on the
unique challenges faced by similar businesses. Resources and
networking are specific and invaluable. Last year we saved over
$6000 in discounts (after deducting the cost of the initial
membership).
We receive monthly alphabetic update of vendor listings, which
includes the discount they offer and their phone number. Most
of the ‘majors’ are member vendors, such as Russ,
Amcal, Kurt Adler, Gund, Applause, etc. as well as dozens of
other smaller companies, who carry wonderful merchandise of
every kind. In fact, I’d venture to guess that you’re
already buying from many of them!
While you aren’t obligated to purchase
from them, it’s to your advantage to look first at what
these member vendors have to offer if you really want to maximize
your savings…. Additional membership benefits are numerous!
When I first presented this opportunity to
our Auxiliary finance committee 5 years ago, they posed many
questions focusing on how much “bang for the buck”
we’d receive. After only 1 year, there was no longer a
reason to ask. To those of you considering but hesitating -
DO IT! It’s an opportunity to augment your bottom line,
which is getting more difficult in today’s marketplace.

Purchasing Power Plus has proven to be a tremendously
successful tool not only in financial rewards but also as an
informative resource. The scope of participating vendors reaches
all product categories appropriate for our needs. Their list
includes many of our key vendors for which we do a significant
amount of business........and now we get a discount! Additionally,
we have been introduced to many new vendors offering discounts
or specials on some exciting new products. PPP provides great
service and a viable opportunity to increase profits. It has
proven to be well worth the expense.

I have just looked at my first year and added
up all the discounts from the companies I dealt with. I have
saved $1300, after paying PPP, for the year. I am a small to
medium gift shop, so I feel great about the savings. For me,
it is $1300 more that will go back to patient welfare, since
we are a "safety-net" hospital.
